Creating your vision for success

What does the ‘ideal you’ look like? How do they live? What do their habits, beliefs and day-to-day look like?

If you haven’t thought about this before, it’s time to start.

In our recent article, you learned about how important goal setting is if you want to improve your success rate.

You know now that people who set goals are far more likely to achieve success. You have even made your first extensive list of goals and spent the time to align them with your values. If this doesn’t sound familiar, go back and have a read.

Create your vision

Once you have put everything together into a vision board, your goals, your why, and your rewards will stay at the top of your awareness.

What’s a vision board?

To create a vision board, firstly, you need to pick six most important “rewards” that you wish to achieve within the next 12 months. It could be something like lifting a double bodyweight deadlift, saving up for a car, or getting lean enough for a photoshoot. You may also reward yourself with a gift once you hit a goal.

Answer the questions set out below for each one:

  • Why is achieving this reward important to you?

  • How will you achieve it?

  • How will you feel when you achieve it?

It is very important to use as much detail as possible when you answer. Imagine yourself in the position of success and describe everything about what this looks, feels and sounds like.

Next, it’s time to create something more visual and tangible.

Using your phone lock screen or wallpaper is a useful way to keep your vision close, but you can also use a corkboard at your desk, for example.

For the phone option (which we’d recommend):

  1. Find pictures that best represent each of your rewards (1 picture each) and save them

  2. Download any app that creates collages

  3. Create a 9:16 grid of 6 boxes

  4. Add your pics in chronological order (Which one will you achieve first, to last)

  5. Save the completed image, and set as your wallpaper and/or lock screen

Every time you look at your phone now, take a split second to recognise the images, what they mean and represent, and what it’s going to mean to achieve them.

Why set goals and create a vision?

Knowing where you’re going in your life is so important. If you apply what you’ve learned over the last few articles, you should be well on your way to achieving your goals.

There’s a slight catch though. Getting really good at goal setting takes time and practice. You’ve started today with better goals than 99% of the population, but it’s what you do with them now that matters.

You need to put in the hard work. These goals need to be looked at weekly, and reviewed quarterly. Without the right effort and energy, there is no point in setting your goals. There’s no point in setting them without acknowledging them and measuring your progress.

Give them a big green highlight on your spreadsheet when you hit each one, and do something for yourself each time… and don’t forget to share it with us!
